The Blazing Return Of Papa George

I think that 2021 has been a great year for music. There have been many great releases, but none as great or as memorable as Papa George’s latest effort ‘These Wheels.’ It is a top-notch blues record from one of the all-time greats. Though he has already solidified himself as a heavy hitter in music, it never hurts to add to one’s repertoire. With this release, Papa George reaffirms his place in rock & roll history.

The album starts off strong with the opening/title track ‘These Wheels.’ It sets the tone for the rest of the album with a grimy riff and an arena worthy beat. It shakes and rattles until it practically derails. The musicianship on this track (the whole album, actually) is unreal.

The album continues to pick up steam throughout. From the steady rhythm of ‘Blackjack’ to the burning heat of ‘Heartache and Pain.’ From the interstate anthem of ‘Heading South’ to the old school bluesy aura of ‘Late In The Evening.’ There is not one track that needs skipping. The production is top-tier, and the flow and placement of each track makes the entire record feel like a complete musical journey. Of course, I expect nothing less than excellence from an artist who has made a career out of being excellent.
